Telemedicine
Telemedicine involves healthcare applications through telecommunication technology.
To provide medical care to the patients at a distant rural area STM Telecom Sanchar has introduced Tele-medicine in the remote village called Leguwa of Dhankuta district and Duradada of Lamjung district. Use of live video to examine patients in remote locations and the patient records and x-ray reports are stored in software database (software developed by STM) which is transmitted through an electronic application for the doctor’s recommendation. Expert consultations are being provided in these centers in association with B.P. Koirala Health Science, Dharan, Nepal.
STM has been the first service provider in Nepal to have operated specialized service based telecenters which includes applications like telemedicine. These telecenters offer internet, email, telephone, fax, scanning, photocopying and tele-medicine facility to the village communities. It also acts as a means of dissemination of the development content of the NGOs relating to health, education, agriculture etc., and the Government facilitating e-governance.
